The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) in the Niagara Region is seeking a Park & Rec Specialist 1 to assist agency staff in the management of trees and shrubs throughout the Niagara region. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
o Under the direction of the Regional Parks Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for Tree Care Crew operations and safety, including training of subordinate staff in the identification of native and ornamental trees and the operation of typical equipment/tools used to remove trees and brush. o Confers with the Park Managers to identify potentially hazardous trees that will be removed or branches to be pruned. o Oversees and performs proper tree care operations including tree removal and pruning, from aerial lifts and the ground. Will also supervise planting, stump grinding, brush chipping and integrative pest and vegetation management. o Ensures and demonstrates work being performed is done to current arboricultural best practices and safety standards. o Operates and maintains various equipment including chainsaws, aerial lift, dump truck, chipper, stump grinder, skid steer, and other heavy equipment and hand tools used in tree care and park operations. o Properly identify native and ornamental park trees and knowledge of tree growth and physiological characteristics is a plus. o May interact with park patrons to resolve concerns, answer questions, and give general directions.

Salary Range:
From $23.55 to $23.55 Hourly
Minimum Qualification
One year of experience in maintenance, construction, landscaping, business operations, park operations, or in an organized recreation program.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
