Under the supervision of Senior Park Management, the incumbent will provide general horticultural services for the Riverway and North Parkway landscaping areas/projects in Niagara Falls, NY. The incumbent will supervise a crew of seasonal grounds employees in the care and maintenance of trees, shrub beds, meadows and lawn areas. Responsibilities will include planning and implementation of bed and meadow maintenance regimens; planting of trees and shrubs; seeding of meadow and lawn areas; development and implementation of an Integrated Pest Management program to control pests and diseases; develop and maintain regional Tree Risk Assessment reports; watering, fertilizing and weeding of beds and meadows; selective pruning of trees and shrubs; assist in the pruning and removal of trees which requires Game of Logging Training; mulching of shrub beds; operation of equipment such as mowers and tractor powered slit seeders; and order necessary supplies. The incumbent will help develop and maintain Tree Risk Assessment reports. The incumbent will also assign, supervise, review, train and evaluate subordinate staff.

Salary Range:
From $40622 to $52039 Annually
Minimum Qualification
Either 1. four years of technical experience in horticulture, plant propagation, nursery, or greenhouse work, which includes plant pest and disease detection and control. This experience must include one year of supervisory experience; Or 2. an associate's or higher-level degree and two years of technical experience in horticulture, plant propagation, nursery, or greenhouse work, which includes plant pest and disease detection and control; Or 3. a bachelor's or higher-level degree in horticulture, agronomy, forestry, or an agricultural related field. Experience working in a florist shop is not qualifying. OPERATING NEEDS:
o Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver's license as a term and condition of employment. o Must possess and maintain a NYS Certified Pesticide Applicator's License, Category 3A; Turf and Ornamentals. If the incumbent does not possess such a license at time of hire, the incumbent will be expected to obtain one at the earliest possible date. o Must have the ability to follow directions and work independently. o Must have the ability to do manual and heavy labor at times and must have the physical capability to perform medium to heavy labor, including heavy lifting. o Must have the ability to safely operate a chainsaw in order to assist with pruning and removing of hazardous trees that are identified through our Tree Risk Assessment Reports. Candidate must complete Game of Logging training within the probationary period or the next time it is offered in the region. o The incumbent will be required to attain certification in CPR and AED as a term and condition of employment. This training will be provided by OPRHP. o Must have the ability to follow directions and communicate effectively with other staff members. o Must be able to work a variable schedule to also include weekends when necessary.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
